Chapter 14: Gu Yaoyao
As soon as Zhou Yuwen returned to his seat, Chang Hao and Li Qiang eagerly leaned in.
"Old Zhou, are you really the main distributor or just bluffing? How come we didn't know?" Chang Hao asked.
Zhou Yuwen chuckled, "We’ve only known each other for half a day. How could you know?"
Chang Hao sighed, "If I knew you were running for class representative, I wouldn't have. Damn it, now we're splitting the votes. Maybe I should go up and tell everyone to vote for you instead."
Chang Hao was about to stand up, but Zhou Yuwen and Li Qiang stopped him.
"Brother Hao, no need. Really, it doesn't matter whether you run or not. Old Zhou's already outshined both you and Jiang Chao," Li Qiang noted, having seen how Zhou Yuwen had captivated everyone.
Indeed, as other students continued their introductions, some were already turning to Zhou Yuwen with inquiries.
"Zhou Yuwen, is it true about the 150-yuan card with 300-yuan credit?" a classmate asked.
"We'll take one for our dorm!"
"And our dorm, too."
Nearby dorms discussed and realized Zhou Yuwen’s offer was too good to pass up. Zhou Yuwen began jotting down names and orders.
"Uh, Zhou Yuwen," You Changjin intervened, "Please respect your classmates."
With students still introducing themselves, Zhou Yuwen’s impromptu business dealings were a bit disruptive.
Zhou Yuwen smiled apologetically and told the interested students, "We’ll talk after class."
Zhou Yuwen had become the clear favorite. Jiang Chao didn’t stand a chance.
Jiang Chao, watching from afar, was jealous. A local from Jinling, he couldn't believe an outsider was stealing the spotlight.
"What are you doing?" Jiang Chao snapped at a dorm mate who approached Zhou Yuwen.
The embarrassed student replied, "Brother Chao, we need the card too."
"Yeah, Brother Chao, no one in Jinling offers this kind of deal," another dorm mate added.
Despite his frustration, Jiang Chao couldn’t deny the truth.
After the introductions, You Changjin moved on to the class representative elections. Gu Yaoyao was the unanimous choice for female representative. For the male representative, the decision was clear to everyone.
"All in favor of Jiang Chao as the temporary class representative during military training. Please raise your hands," You Changjin called.
Only a few hands went up, mostly Jiang Chao's dorm mates. Jiang Chao’s face turned sour.
"What about Chang Hao?" You Changjin began, but Chang Hao quickly interrupted.
"Mr. You, I withdraw!"
"Withdraw? Why?"
"Well, I’m in the same dorm as Zhou Yuwen. It's better for internal harmony if I support him for class representative!" Chang Hao declared.
You Changjin, who already preferred Zhou Yuwen for the role, agreed. "Alright, all in favor of Zhou Yuwen as the class representative, please raise your hands."
Hands shot up enthusiastically, accompanied by laughter. The students knew they’d benefit directly from Zhou Yuwen’s generous offers.
"Very well, Zhou Yuwen will be the temporary class representative, and Gu Yaoyao the vice representative. We’ll have a formal election after military training. Please report any issues with their leadership to me."
After finalizing the election, You Changjin went over the schedule, emphasizing safety during military training and warning against high-paying job scams.
By the time he finished, it was almost 8 PM.
"Don’t forget, class representatives, to pick up the military training uniforms tomorrow morning at the third teaching building," You Changjin reminded them as he left.
As soon as he left, students crowded around Zhou Yuwen, eager to discuss the campus card. Zhou Yuwen took down their information, emphasizing that one card per dorm would suffice, but some insisted on two for convenience.
By the end, about eight cards were ordered for the class.
"Zhou Yuwen, I’d like a card too," Gu Yaoyao approached, smiling.
"Aren't you in the same dorm as Liu Yue? She already got one," Li Qiang pointed out, trying to be helpful.
Gu Yaoyao playfully replied, "Just supporting our class representative."
The students around them laughed, sensing some romantic tension.
Zhou Yuwen, however, remained professional. "That’s fine. Just give me your ID, and I'll get it done. We’ll distribute the cards at 9:30 AM in front of the gym."
Gu Yaoyao offered to pay upfront, suggesting he could handle it directly. Zhou Yuwen reiterated that it was better to handle things systematically the next day.
"If you trust me, leave your ID with me, and I’ll take care of it tonight," Zhou Yuwen said.
Gu Yaoyao hesitated for a moment before handing over her ID, showing her complete trust.
"Class representative, I’m entrusting you with everything. Don’t let anyone else see my ID, or we’re done," she teased.
Despite the teasing, Zhou Yuwen handled it smoothly. "No problem. Anyone else needing a card?"
Liu Yue, noticing Zhou Yuwen’s composed handling, offered to help. "I can run the errand for you tomorrow."
Gu Yaoyao, however, preferred handling it herself, wanting to maintain the connection with Zhou Yuwen. Handing over her ID, she smiled and added, "Class representative, I’m counting on you."
Zhou Yuwen took the ID without even glancing at it, staying focused on his task. "Alright, any more card orders?"
