Her opponent did not seem to hear her as he lunged his huge bulk towards her with speed, his eyes reflecting madness and insanity. His red eyes further complementing his panting, bulky figure.
He seemed to enter into a frenzy when he suddenly thought of the one thousand points he would lose. His madness was so grave that he didn’t even realize that the bell had rung.
"He’s lost control!" Grey said with a calm expression when he saw the scrawny youth rush towards Alice as if he hadn’t heard the bell. He silently watched Alice’s reaction. He had no intention of helping; after all, he was not a saint. And he doubted that a mysterious expert wouldn’t be in the hall at this moment.
His assumption seemed to be correct as, at that moment, a strange power swept the youth off his feet before heartlessly slamming him onto the ground. After being slammed, the youth seemed to have regained his consciousness, but he was in so much pain that he could hardly move his body.
After a moment, he was engulfed in silver light and disappeared. Alice stood by the side with a wary expression on her face. But when she saw the youth being slammed down by an invisible force and disappearing moments later, her heart calmed down.
After all, the youth had really left an impression on her. At his young age, he was already this strong. Although she was only older than him by at most two years, ladies were always sensitive towards such matters.
At that moment, she let out a sigh of relief, but was soon engulfed by a bright silver light while on stage. Grey and the others were also engulfed in silver light at the same time and vanished from the hall.
Only a few people noticed their disappearance, and even fewer cared. They still had their matches to look forward to, so why should they worry about someone else instead of themselves?
By the time they regained sight of their surroundings, Grey saw a handsome young man in blue clothes looking at them with an icy cold expression. His gaze was distant and nonchalant as he said coldly, "You lot are the first set of people to pass the Sky Mist Academy test this year. Here are your tokens—" he said and handed each of them a special jade slip. "—without these jade slips, you will be forced to leave the Sky Mist Academy before long. If not, the Sky array will kill you! Here are the rules: pay your tribute every day until you have reached Foundation Establishment. Only then can you participate in the academy’s mainstream missions."
"Residence is not free. Things cost money or spirit stones. But you can also exchange other things for points; I suggest the latter! As the upcoming youngsters, I will only give you one piece of advice here in the Sky Mist Academy... Trust no one! I give you a week to figure things out for yourselves. The color of your token will determine your Sky sequence. You will already have your departments waiting for you and your captains waiting to brief you! If you have any questions, don’t ask me." After that, the icy cold young man took off.
Grey looked at his retreating figure in a daze. He held his token and saw that it was shining with a pale blue light, with the number three written on it.
Grey furrowed his brows and read the information written on the jade slip. It contained information about some things they should know, and as he kept reading, his frown deepened.
The rest of the team also had scowls on their faces. The Sky Mist Academy was not really what they thought it was.
Yes, it was the legendary place that groomed monsters and peerless geniuses, but the conditions were simply too hard. First off, the daily rent fee was fifty coins— even more expensive than living in the city. And not only that, they had to pay for everything else, including resources and certain information.
There were also some very strict rules that one had to abide by, or they would be severely punished. For example, a cultivator was not allowed to directly kill a citizen. But other cultivators could be killed if one wanted.
Since they were exceptional students, they were already placed in a department and sequence, which made things easier for them. They could then start grinding for their daily bread. Not only that, this jade slip was not only used as a token; it also served as their identity information. The amount of points and spirit coins were also displayed on it.
Grey’s token let out a faint blue light for a few seconds, the number three showing on the jade slip. From there, he knew that he was in the third sequence. The department he was assigned to was the Detective Agency Department. They were responsible for all murder cases in Sky Mist Academy and Sky Mist City.
With a small sigh, he turned to look at the people near him and saw them all with rigid expressions. Zayne had an awkward expression on his face. His token was also shining faint blue, with the number three clearly visible on it.
All in all, there were eight sequences, and each sequence had a powerful expert leading them. The third sequence was responsible for the port. Yes, Sky Mist City had a port, but he couldn’t have known because it was simply too huge. From the port, residents had access to the Dead Sea.
The rest of the temporary team also had various sequences and numbers written on their jade slips. It was clear that they would be splitting up. With a curt nod, Grey turned to leave. He was very broke and had no money with him. Furthermore, he hadn’t eaten anything since morning. He didn’t want to owe rent on his first day, so he figured the best thing to do was to go to his department, get used to the ropes, and start grinding for money.
Just as Grey and everyone were about to leave, Ange suddenly shouted for them to stop. After exchanging communication details, they each left for their different departments in different sequences.
Zayne and Grey were coincidentally in the same sequence and department, so Zayne suggested they go together. Ange, Sylvia, and Alice each went their own paths at the same time. After bidding each other goodbye, the team of five split up.
Grey and Zayne followed the directions to the Detective Agency Department to report for duty. Grey decided to get a stable income first before anything else, so the best thing was to discuss with his superior and come to an agreement.
As he silently ran, he took notice of the environment and the people. The people living in Sky Mist City all had happy expressions on their faces as they went about their daily lives. After all, they had protectors. As long as they paid their rent daily and did not cause any trouble, Sky Mist City would continue to be their place of residence.
"You know, this was not what I thought about when they described Sky Mist Academy!" Zayne spoke after much deliberation.
Grey was silent for a few seconds before nodding. "Actually, I didn’t know what to expect from Sky Mist, but with the way things are, I think this is how things are supposed to be! The best place to learn is on the streets after all." After Grey spoke, Zayne nodded repeatedly.
As they continued on their way, Grey decided to study the local shops and buildings in case there was ever a need. He also needed to think about residence, food, and resources.
After the battle with the Shadow Sect, he had exhausted all of his poison. Now, only a few poison pills remained with him. He decided to hold onto those for backup in case of any unforeseen events.
Grey and Zayne stopped in front of a big building. According to the jade slip’s description, this was the Detective Agency Department.
Grey took a deep breath. The first thing he wanted to do was get acquainted with his boss and know what he would be doing. After that, he could plan his life from there.
Inside the building, Zayne and Grey saw the nonchalant expressions of their colleagues. Each of them emitted a strong baleful aura, and each had a look on their face telling whoever wanted to get close to fuck off. Some of them gave Grey and Zayne a short nod of acknowledgment. Grey saw that they were all wearing badges with the symbol of two wings—one blue and the other white.
Zayne went to register under his own captain, while Grey went to meet his. Once he saw the door with the words Director on it, he immediately knew it was the one.
He knocked and heard a crisp voice telling him to come in. His brows furrowed when he recognized the voice. With a grunt, he pushed open the door to see his opponent sitting there with her legs crossed on the table.
She had a lollipop in her mouth while holding a document in her right hand. In her left hand was an apple. As soon as she saw him, she put away the document and threw the apple at him. He instinctively caught it. She smiled when she saw that.
"Okay, you must be the new recruit they were talking about! From now on, you are Vice Captain Grey of the Red Five Detective Agency Department. If you want, you can wear a cool detective hat to match." She said in a teasing tone during the last sentence before standing up from her seat and pulling out a drawer.
